Electing More Democratic Legislators in 2008

We  have suggested 6 strategies for electing more Washington State Democratic Legislators in 2008:

 

1.   Passing mainstream Liberal legislation

2.   Comprehensive campaigning everywhere all-the-time

3.   Prioritizing legislative races

4.   A statewide team approach – with stronger legislative districts helping weaker ones

5.   Canvassing unidentified voters

6.   Creating supporting networks

 

The following is an elaboration of the 3rd strategy.  To direct our efforts and resources, our campaign plan should establish priorities among the various races.  The following priorities are suggested.

 

1. Re-elect all incumbents, especially ones who won by slim margins in 2006:

#23.1 Clallam, Grays Harbor, Jefferson - Kevin Van De Wege (D)   52.73%

#28.1 Pierce - Troy Kelley (D) 51.66%

#44.S Snohomish - Steve Hobbs (D) 52.29%   not up for re-election in 2008

#45.S King - Eric Oemig  (D) 52.94%  not up for re-election in 2008

#45.1 King - Roger Goodman  (D) 53.7%

#47.S King - Dem Claudia Kauffman   52.19%   not up for re-election in 2008

#48.S. King - Dem Rodney Tom   53.36%   not up for re-election in 2008

 

2. Defeat Republicans who won by slim margins in 2006

#10.2 Island, Skagit, Snohomish     -  Barbara Bailey (R)  51.51%

#17.1 Clark - Jim Dunn (R)  50.45%

#31.S King, Pierce - Pam Roach (R)   53.17%    not up for re-election in 2008

#41.1 King - Fred Jarrett (R)  53.28%

#42.S Whatcom - Dale Brandland (R)   53.25%   not up for re-election in 2008

 

3. Defeat Republican in legislative districts which have only one Republican

    legislator.
